TUBES AND LAMPS

Do not throw your fluorescent tubes and lamps, recycle !

The French decree n° 97-517 dated of May 15, 1997 has classed as "dangerous wastes", fluorescent tubes and lamps containing mercury at the end of life. It is forbidden to dump them since January 1st, 1998.

Manufacturers have made some big efforts to reduce the quantities of mercury in the lamps.
But there is still a danger because of the consumption : 40 million fluorescent tubes are sold in France per year.

So it is important to recycle fluorescent tubes, lamps with mercury vapor, lamps with sodium vapor and fluo-compacts.

Treatment :
Tubes and lamps are treated separately, and have to be stocked without their original package.

Tubes and lamps are crushed under pressure with gas filtration.
Separation : glass, luminescent powder and metallic pieces. Glass and powder are placed in the oven to distillate the mercury.

Recycling :
Glass, metal (aluminium, iron…) and powders (which are rare earth) are totally recycled by industries.

Collection :
Duclos Environnement works with regional collectors who offer a full service, with containers and collect.
